THE STORY

WELCOME to the prison-like city of KOWLOON. A cluster of conjoined buildings run by gangs where the ability of an individual to hope is non-existent. DANIEL, JIN and ARIANA are three kids who defy this life sentence. They intend to escape and are willing to go to EXTREME measures to do so. Since escape on foot is impossible, their quest leads them to the SKY.

THE CAST

DANIEL – Smart and gifted but unfocused. On the fast track to be a squandered genius, his lack of interest in academics leads to conflict with his father. He is an angry child. Even at this age you can tell the city has damaged him in some way. He is the driving force of the group.

JIN – A brilliant gear head he spends the vast majority of his time in the city’s junkyard. He experiments with his own designs and creations. His dad died in a racing accident and combined with an overprotective mother resulted in his very reserved personality.

ARIANA –Emotionally strong and pragmatic her childhood has been derailed into a life of helping her father run a convenience store. She has no social life to speak of and when she joins the group it is the first time she gets to be a kid again since her mother passed away. She soon emerges as the rock that supports the trio when times get hard.

CITY OF WALLS FACTS

CITY OF WALLS FACT:

Game recognize game. Abede and I know we have a great book with City of Walls. So if we bring in some guest talent we only bring the BEST. The talented Khary Randolph, known for the hottest panels and coolest covers around, stepped in and did the amazing COLORS for the cover City of Walls # 2. The color work Khary did on a picture of an older Ariana stops people in their tracks AT booth every year at Comic Con. Khary’s done work on Starborn, Charismagic, Teen Titans Go, Static Shock, Fanboys Vs Zombies,Invincible and tons more. This Heroes For Hire Poster is one of my favorites. Check out this and his other stuff on his website kharupt.com.

CITY OF WALLS FACT:

Besides the pencils and story of City of Walls #1, another factor that makes it great is the dark and moody ink work. These are done by none other than WORLD FAMOUS inker MARK MORALES. Mark has worked on some of the mo...st popular books in the comic book world including Thor, Avengers vs. X-Men, Wolverine, Secret Invasion, Young Avengers and Siege. City of Walls has some of his best work.

CITY OF WALLS FACT # 4

CITY OF WALLS FACTS

CITY OF WALLS FACT:

The story of Jin, Daniel and Ariana is EXTREMELY collaborative. I don’t just do the writing and Abede the art. Abede came to me with the concept and we expanded on it. We discuss the story together and I run with it for the script. He has great story ideas. And while I can’t actually draw, many visual concepts on the pages and varied ways of showing scenes have come from my head. And it is up to me to communicate that to Abede so he can bring to the page in the best way possible.

CITY OF WALLS FACT # 3

CITY OF WALLS FACTS

CITY OF WALLS FACT:

City of Walls Fact: The City of Walls logo went through many iterations before it arrived in the final “box” like form it is right now. We had great logo concepts as many of you with copies of earlier versions of City of Walls can attest to, but none of them were quite right. I came up with the idea of having a militaristic font to reflect Kowloon’s prison like atmosphere and Abede altered it to a concise square form that would be visually memorable and suggest confinement. I couldn’t be more pleased and it looks great on a t-shirt.

CITY OF WALLS FACT # 2

CITY OF WALLS FACTS

CITY OF WALLS FACT:

City of Walls Fact: Daniel’s story telling is a huge part of his personality and part of the driving force of the City of Walls story line in general. We put a lot of work into having the prose of Daniel’s numerous stories be very compelling and different from the one before it, visually and thematically. Daniel is a unique kid and we want his imagination and stories to reflect this.

CITY OF WALL FACTS # 1

CITY OF WALLS FACTS

Twice a week or so I will give a fun fact about our comic book City of Walls. It will be about creation or write or just an interesting thing to know.

CITY OF WALLS FACT:

Later issues of City of Walls take more a dramatic emotional turn. It was very influenced by Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead Vol. 9: Here We Remain. It contains very emotional scenes with Rick’s son Carl. Like Jin, Daniel and Ariana he has to learn to deal with adult situations at quite a young age. And he has periods where he acts very mature for his age, mixed in with the overwhelmingly frightening emotions that a child would have to horrible situations. It opened my eyes to the range of feelings that kids could experience and how it affects the reader.
